Bloomingdale dates back to 1665 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1965. The brick structure is laid up with the Flemish bond of the Federal style and is an example of transitional English Georgian-American.
Three porticos open onto the "L" shaped Grand Hall. The front entrance has the only two story hexagonal portico in Maryland - the upper story provides a unique setting for the Bride's bouquet toss, DJ booth, or photo session. The Gazebo and North porticos work well for guestbook displays, bar areas, and even ceremonies.
The stairway from the Grand Hall is wide, has gently rising steips and is broken in its flight to the second floor by two landings. The mahogany hadrail ends in a graceful newel post and the overhead is delicately arched with a central oval adorned with an antique chandalier.
On the first floor, in addition to the Grand Hall, is the Parlor and the Drawing Room and like the Hall they feature the 13' ceilings as was the style in the early 1800's. The outstanding decorative features of these rooms are the beautifully carved five-foot high mantelpieces with fluted columns, catherdral arches and oval medallions, and are flanked on both sides by recessed bookcase arches.
